— Drop-In Classes

Obedience Drop-in Class
(No Charge, Members Only)

All Classes are on the First FOUR
Thursday Evenings of Each Month
from 7:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m.
At the San Diego Zoo Parking Lot
(NO Classes will be held on the 5th Thursday of any month.)

Purpose & Class Requirements: This is an ongoing practice class for basic obedience and is available weekly on a drop-in basis (except the 5th Thursday of the month). Dogs attending drop-in must be able to heel, sit, down, come, stay, stand and finish. If you are having issues with a particular skill, this is a good place to ask for help. Obedience skills are not taught in this class but it is a great place to practice and polish skills learned in the beginning or intermediate class and continue the socialization of your pet. If you are not sure if your dog has the proper skill level to participate in this class, please ask to speak to the training director for a quick assessment.

This class is offered year-round while our classes are in session. If in doubt, be sure to check the weather forecast link at the bottom of this page.

Remember to:

1) Wear proper, comfortable clothes, as well as shoes with closed toes. (No flip flops or high heels.)

2) Use a proper obedience leash and collar.

3) If you use food or toys in your training, be sure to bring treats and toys your dog enjoys and a “bait bag” or pouch to keep the treats in or wear clothes with easy access front pockets to keep your bait handy.

4) Have a “poop” bag handy in class. (What goes in may come out.)

Rally Obedience Drop-In Class
(No Charge, Members Only)

All Classes are on Thursday Evenings
from 7:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m.
At the San Diego Zoo Parking Lot

The rally drop-in class is mainly for people who have some experience in rally. A course will be set up that includes ALL levels of signs... Novice through Masters. Maps will be provided and questions about particular signs will be answered. If you are having issues with a particular skill, this is the place to ask for help, polish your skills and prepare you for rally competition. You will be observed by one of the instructors as you go through the course and suggestions will be offered. A leash must be used at all times and positive reinforcement is acceptable (i.e. you can use food).

For those who are interested in rally but have no experience, you may come and observe. If there is time, one of the instructors will walk you through the course and explain the rules.

If your dog is able to perform the following commands: sit, down, stay, come and finish, you may be able to try taking them through the course if time permits.

This class is offered year-round while our classes are in session. If in doubt, check the weather forecast link at the bottom of this page.

Conformation Drop-In Class
(No Charge, Members Only)

All Classes are on Thursday Evenings
from 7:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m.
At the San Diego Zoo Parking Lot

This is an ongoing practice class for the conformation ring. It is available weekly on a drop-in basis. While very limited instruction is provided, participants are able to hone their conformation handling skills by gaiting, stacking, and having their dogs examined in a conformation ring.

Some things you should have are:

1) As in Obedience class, wear proper, comfortable clothes, as well as shoes with closed toes. (No flip flops or high heels.)

2) Use a proper show lead and collar. Show leads are different from obedience training collars and leads. There are many different styles, so find which is best for your breed.

3) Bring bait or treats your dog enjoys and a “bait bag” or pouch to keep the treats in or wear clothes with easy access front pockets to keep your bait handy.  Some people use a very small toy or squeaker to keep their dogs excited.

4) Have a “poop” bag handy in class. (What goes in may come out.)

5) Some extras people like to bring and keep near the edge of the ring are water for the dog, a comb for the dog, or a “drool towel” (for breeds that need them).

Conformation Drop-in class is a chance to practice and polish your skills as a handler in the show ring and help prepare you for competition. Treat every class as if it were a show.
